A note from Heather
I have been a teacher for 26 years. Throughout the years, I have taught every grade K-8 I switched to a new school this year, and I got to stay in fourth grade, which is my favorite grade! I am a high-energy teacher who basically sings my entire day like I’m in a Broadway musical. (I think that saying “Weird Teachers Build Character” was written for me.🙂) I love to teach social studies and reading. My favorite time of day is right after lunch when I read to the kids as they gather around me on the floor and listen. We call it “Old Lady Loomis Time” because I used to sit in a rocking chair and read, and I told the kids I felt like an old lady. (My rocking chair broke, and I had to upgrade, but the name just stuck.) My number one goal every year is to turn at least one non-reader into a reader. I am the teacher who volunteers for everything— running the school Facebook page, directing the school musical and the school play, running the school garden and maintaining it over the summer, helping with the yearbook, etc. If there is something to be done, people know I will step up and do it, and they know they can count on me if they ever need anything. I am a staunch believer in the “I’m Third” motto— God first, others second, myself third. That is why everything on my wish list is for my students. Oh, and I can name all the presidents of the United States in order in less than 12 seconds. It’s something I teach my students to do and I challenge them to beat me every year. American history is my jam.
A book Heather recommends
Holes by Louis Sachar (this is a ridiculously hard question for me to answer, as reading is my love.)
Adopt Heather’s classroom
A wishlist is one moment in a long year. Supplies run out, holiday projects need their own things, and the snack drawer is empty again by February. Adopting means Heather can tell you what comes up next, and how the year is going in the room itself.
Once a month at the most, written by Heather. One click to stop, whenever you like. Heather never sees your address, and it is used for nothing else.
